Privacy Concerns And Ways To Deal With Them

    February 17th, 2010 by admin

When you use your computer your actions are tracked by the Windows operating system and also by the various programs you use.  For example, your internet browser keeps track of your internet browsing history.  This means that addresses of websites you’ve viewed will stay in the history file as well as in the address dropdown box depending on your settings.  This can be potentially problematic if you don’t want everyone to know what you’ve been browsing for on the internet.  Whether you’re Christmas shopping or searching for information on a medical condition, you should be able to keep this private.  In our opinion the best internet privacy software is a program called ParetoLogic Privacy Controls.  This is an excellent tool that makes clearing out all the history and cache files and folders a simple one or two click process.

It is definitely possible to do this manually, but you might end up missing spots, and it takes much longer to go in and do all the little tasks that a dedicated program can automate for you.  For example, you can “clear private data” in Firefox, but did it clear all the images from the temporary internet files folder?  Probably not.  So you’d have to go in there and delete that manually.

One good option that browsers have these days is a Private Browsing mode.  This is extremely helpful, and the new version of Firefox has it.  It will not remember any cookies or websites from that particular session.  It’s a great tool that should be standard.
