The iPhone Has a Special Button on the Headset Cord
July 14th, 2010 by admin
It’s easy to find iPhone users who don’t know that they can skip or replay songs using the button on their headset cord. It leaves many iPhone users unaware that they can tether their phones (assuming they live just about anywhere other than the States, of course). It makes it so that useful tools such as the email search box are happened upon after days, weeks or months of use.
There is a manual, of course. It exists online though. Unfortunately, the type of person who needs that manual is the type of person who won’t know how to find it. For what it’s worth, Apple could easily build a how-to manual into the phone—not just add in the link in Safari, which a lot of people never find. They have how to videos on their website, so why not add them onto the device in an obvious (and removable) fashion?
In the end, wasting paper on thirty million manuals, and cardboard for the larger box that would be needed, isn’t really called for; however, having a clearer summary of the most basic instructions would be great. At the very least there should be a clearer note indicating where the detailed instructions can be found. The way it stands now, too many iPhone owners are going without a lot of basic knowledge, and that’s just ridiculous.
The bad thing about the lack of a manual is that, while it’s an easy device to use, people end up going without a lot of features because they don’t realize they are even there. Worse, it leaves people questioning whether or not they are using the features they do know about correctly. Some shining examples of that can be found within the settings menu, with a lot of people not understanding the full implications of the passcode, or even the difference between push and fetch.
