Finding An Unbiased E-Book Reader Review

    March 10th, 2010 by admin

If you’re thinking about treating yourself to an electronic book reader then, in all probability, you will mentally be comparing it to the experience of reading a conventional book. Text printed on paper, that sort of thing. It shouldn’t be too hard for you to find a decent ebook reader review to help you – there are plenty of them on the net right now.

The only trouble is that a lot of the reviews available tend to focus very strongly on the hardware – which is perfectly understandable of course, it’s an important aspect of the e-book reader experience. However, it doesn’t tell the complete story and the majority of comparative reviews compare two different e-book readers rather than describing how the experience of using a reader stacks up against “real” books.

First things first – the display. Be sure to get an e-book reader which incorporates an e-ink technology display. This provides you with a reading experience that is extremely similar to reading text printed on paper. It is much more pleasant than reading on a computer screen and it really does have to be experienced to be believed.

Secondly consider the controls. For me the acid test of an e-book reader is not how it performs in some lab test but how easy it is to use (generally with one hand) on a crowded train or bus or stretched out on the sofa with a cup of coffee. Whether or not you really need touch screen controls is debatable – as long as the buttons are in the right place you probably won’t miss this feature, but it is very much a matter of personal taste.

Thirdly, do not assume that the price of e-books is the same for all readers. Even ignoring special promotions, there can be differences in the range of 40 to 50% in the average price of books bought for different readers. If you choose the right reader then you could save enough money to make it pay for itself within a few months.
